Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the right man for an emotional return as Feyenoord manager, according to Dutch hero Wesley Sneijder.

The ex-Rangers boss has been out of football since he was axed by Besiktas earlier this season.

He had two spells as a player at De Kuip and also managed the Rotterdam club and led them to a Dutch title and three national cups.

Feyenoord look set to axe manager Brian Priske after falling ten points behind the leaders and dropping to fourth place.

The Dane also lashed out at criticism of him after only drawing against Willem II at the weekend.

He said: "You don’t know what is happening on the pitch, during the training, or in the dressing room. You have no idea. You are not there. I am not doing this job for journalists' approval."

And former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Ajax star Sneijder, who was capped 134 times by the Netherlands and is now a TV pundit, reckons a return for Feyenoord for van Bronckhorst is the most likely solution.

He said: "Gio is free again. I have no idea if he wants to go back to Feyenoord. It's very difficult to succeed as a manager in Turkey where he was last.

"But he did a fantastic job at Feyenoord the last time. He is the obvious choice."
