A SCOTTISH city has been named among the best in the world as a place to raise a family.

Language learning platform Italki has ranked cities across the world by looking at factors like safety, things to do, cost of living, maternity leave policies and the quality of education.

Edinburgh was named top of the list while it was also the only city in the UK to feature in the top 10.

According to the experts, the Scottish capital has a high quality of life index score of 187.7, finding that the city has 32.8 things to do per 10,000 people.

Highlights include the iconic Edinburgh Castle as well as Arthur’s Seat and a range of fascinating museums and galleries.

Elsewhere on the list, Amsterdam in the Netherlands was ranked in second place while the top five was made up of Seville, Helsinki and Copenhagen.
