CONSTRUCTION on a new £10 million home improvement store has moved onto a next key stage. Contractors have now completed building works on a new Wickes branch in Westhill, Aberdeen.

Wickes will proceed to fit out the site, based at Kingshill Business Park, ahead of its summer opening.

Wickes’ chief property and services officer Sarah Taitt commented: “The new Wickes store will officially open in August.

“As well as providing work opportunities for the local area, we look forward to offering residents of Aberdeen access to a wide range of home improvement products, services, and expert advice from our knowledgeable staff.”

The 25,000 sq ft build, carried out by contractor Clark Contracts, cost £10m. Its steel frame design features a mezzanine floor to maximise aisle space. A total of 79 car parking spaces will accompany the store.

Knight Property Group supervised the process from their Aberdeen office.

Wickes is a national home improvement retail franchise, first established in Whitfield, Manchester in 1972.

Its 230 UK stores target tradesmen and DIYers, including in sites in Dumfries, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth, and Stirling.

Key products include own- and mainstream-branded construction tools, garden supplies, as well as custom kitchen/bathroom designs and installations.

Wickes Westhill will share Kingshill Business Park with competitors Screwfix and Toolstation.

Once completed in August, the new branch will open 25 new jobs for Aberdeen-based DIY enthusiasts.
