A Glasgow showbiz legend has died, it has been reported.

Christian, real name Chris McClure, apparently passed away in his sleep on the morning of April 29 at 80 years old.

An announcement was made on Christian's official website, which said: "It is with deep sadness that we announce that Christian (Chris McClure) passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of April 29.

"Our thoughts are with his family, who have asked for privacy, and to be left in peace at this very sad time."

The Scottish Sun have reported that Christian's agent Ean Jones, confirmed the news saying: "This has come as a huge shock as he was performing on Saturday night.

The National:

"But that sums up Chris perfectly - as he was a performer to the end. His family have now respectfully asked to be left in peace."

The twice married dad-of-five had an incredible career spanning over 60 years, which included touring the UK with Billy Connolly in the 1970s and was a regular performer in a number of pantomimes at the Pavilion Theatre in the city centre.

The National:

In 2018 he was still performing in the Glasgow Pavilion’s annual panto, alongside River City star Stephen Purdon and TV wrestler Grado.

Christian also appeared on the same bill as The Jacksons and Dolly Parton at the Queen's Jubilee show at Glasgow’s King's Theatre in 1978.
