A DRIVER has been arrested and a pedestrian is fighting for his life after being hit by a van in the Scottish capital.

Emergency services were called to Trinity Crescent in Edinburgh just before 6pm on Wednesday after a collision involving a Citroen Relay and a man.

The 59-year-old pedestrian has been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where his condition is described as critical.

The driver of the van, a 40-year-old man, has been arrested and released pending further enquiries.

The road had to be closed for around six hours to allow an investigation to take place.

Sergeant Jen Niven said: “Our enquiries into this collision are ongoing and we would like to ask anyone in the area at the time who has not already spoken out to us to please get in touch.

“We would also be keen to see any dashcam or private CCTV footage from the area around the time of the crash.”
