THE SNP have announced who will serve as the party’s campaign director for the next General Election.
Stewart Hosie, who will step down as an MP at the next Westminster vote, has been named as the SNP’s campaign chief.
Hosie has been an MP since 2005 and previously served as the SNP’s depute leader.
After the announcement, he said: “I am thrilled and honoured to be invited to lead our election charge and I can’t wait to get stuck in, taking the SNP’s positive message to doorsteps the length and breadth of Scotland.

“As an MP for almost two decades, I know how crucial it is to have SNP MPs in Westminster fighting for what is important to the people of this country – because no other party will do that.
“The SNP is the only party ready and raring to go. Like people across Scotland, we want to get the Tories out of Number 10 as soon as possible.
"They have inflicted more than a decade of suffering on Scotland and Labour is offering no hope of real change from the same failed right-wing agenda that delivered broken Brexit Britain.
"Scotland deserves better and the SNP is the only party offering a brighter future with Independence."
SNP leader Humza Yousaf (above with Hosie) welcomed the appointment, saying he had invited Hosie to take on the role.
He said: “I’m sure the whole party will welcome the news that SNP stalwart Stewart Hosie has accepted my invitation to be campaign director for the upcoming Westminster election.
“Stewart brings an unrivalled wealth of experience and expertise to the role and I have no doubt he will lead the delivery of a fantastic campaign.
“This Westminster election can't come soon enough. It’s time to get rid of the Tories and elect a strong group of SNP MPs to stand up for Scotland at Westminster.”
SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn said: “Having worked closely with Stewart for many years, I have watched him run rings around the out of touch Westminster parties with skill and intelligence.
“Stewart is one of the most successful politicians in Scottish history, repeatedly winning elections and providing a powerful voice for Scotland in Westminster.
"I am delighted to have Stewart leading our campaign and can’t wait to work alongside him to deliver an emphatic SNP victory at the General Election."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
