A RYANAIR flight from a Scottish airport was forced to turn around shortly after take off due to a mid air emergency.

The aircraft, departing from Edinburgh at 10.37am on Monday, was forced to U-turn due to what is understood to have been a medical-related incident.

The flight was due to land at London Stansted at 12.05pm but returned to Edinburgh around 11pm.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: "This flight from Edinburgh to London Stansted (18 Mar) returned to Edinburgh shortly after take-off when a passenger onboard became ill. The aircraft landed normally at Edinburgh and the passenger was offloaded for further treatment before this flight continued to London Stansted following a brief 40-minute delay."
