TWO teenagers have been killed and a third is in “critical condition” after a road accident in a Scottish city.
A 17 and 19-year-old were both in the backseat of a Vauxhall Corsa when it collided with a lorry in Stirling on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The two boys were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other 17-year-olds in the car were rushed to hospital. The driver, a male, was flown by air ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he remains in a critical condition.
The front passenger, a female, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment but has since been released.
Police said the fatal crash happened on the A91, between the Bannockburn Interchange and Greencornhills Roundabout, at around 3.50pm on Sunday, March 17.
The 29-year-old male driver of the HGV was not injured. He was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released pending further enquiries.
The road was closed to allow for crash investigations to take place and reopened around 2.40am on Monday, March 18.
Road Policing Sergeant Elaine Scott said: “My thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident and their families and friends at this difficult time. We will continue to offer support as our investigation progresses.
“It’s vital we establish exactly what happened here and I’m appealing to anyone who saw the crash, or either vehicle prior to it, to contact us. Regardless of how significant you believe the information you have is, we want to hear from you.
“I’d also ask drivers with dashcam footage of the area around the time to please review this and bring anything of significance to our attention.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 2165 of March 17.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
