SCOTTISH businesses are being called upon to support The National’s fundraiser for Palestine.

Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp, CEO of Business for Scotland, has urged businesses to donate what they can to help those suffering in Gaza, something he insists would be “humanistic, not political”.

The National is raising funds for Medical Aid For Palestinians and despite setting an initial goal of £15,000, the amount raised has now risen to more than £95,000.

The aim is to now raise £100,000 by Saturday, March 16. The money raised will help get more urgently needed medical aid into Gaza and distribute it to those in need.

We have outlined how important Medical Aid for Palestinians’ work is as people in Gaza are literally starving.

MacIntyre-Kemp has specifically called on the Scottish business community to show support for the fundraiser.

He said: “Man's inhumanity to man continues unabated. Maybe we can do nothing about that, maybe it’s too big an issue to address but we should not feel hopeless or become detached from the tragedy in Palestine because we can all help – even if it's just a small contribution to the humanitarian effort.

“Regardless of your political or religious beliefs or your thoughts on the historical roots of this conflict, the horror and suffering of people, young and old, should prove unacceptable to anyone who has even a modicum of care and kindness for their fellow human beings.

“Millions of innocent civilians are caught in the crossfire in Gaza. Supporting medical aid which will save the lives of the civilian victims of this carnage is humanistic, not political.”

Scottish writer Val McDermid has backed the campaign stressing that “even a small amount helps”.

Holywood actor Alan Cumming has also shown his support, sharing The National’s campaign on his Instagram story on Wednesday.
