THE Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has issued a “very high” risk of wildfire warning for parts of Scotland.

On Saturday, the SFRS said there was an extreme risk of wildfire across island and coastal areas in the west and north of Scotland.

A statement said that “people who live within or who enter these areas should exercise caution and avoid naked flames”.

While the extreme warning for western Scotland was lifted on Sunday, a “very high” risk of wildfire remains in place for northwest Scotland until Tuesday.

It comes after news statistics from the SFRS found that firefighters in Scotland were on average talking one wildfire per day during the peak season in 2023.
