Litter picks across Renfrewshire will be carried out throughout March and April.

The clean-up is part of the Big Spring Clean campaign, which is part of Renfrewshire Council’s Team Up to Clean Up initiative.

The campaign encourages locals to make a positive impact on their environment through a series of litter picks.

Volunteers will be provided with equipment and advice by the council, and all collected rubbish will be taken care of.

Councillor Michelle Campbell, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said: "The Big Spring Clean is a great way for people to make a positive difference to where they live, and I’m always impressed by how many people come out to participate in this campaign each year.

“We have a dedicated group of volunteers who work with us throughout the year to make Renfrewshire a cleaner and more attractive place to live, but the Big Spring Clean offers an opportunity to broaden that group and get more people involved in taking an active role in improving their community.

"We know local people can make a real positive impact in changing peoples’ attitudes towards littering so please take part in the Big Spring Clean this year if you can.

"It’s amazing the difference communities coming together can make to their local environment."

Engagement with local schools is another major component of the campaign, with officials scheduled to speak with students about the effects of littering on the environment.

Another new addition this year is the Wildflower Planting sessions, led by conservation volunteers, and set to take place through a series of three workshops in April.

Past events of the Big Spring Clean saw around 3500 litter picks conducted last year, supported by more than 5300 volunteers.
