SEVERAL animals have had to be put down after a HGV cattle transporter lost control and overturned on a road in the Scottish Borders.
Police are appealing for information about the incident which happened on Wednesday, just before 7am on the A697 northbound between the Gordon and Lauder junction.
The black lorry was carrying livestock at the time and the driver, while uninjured, was left badly shaken. Police say several animals had to be "humanely destroyed".
Emergency services attended the scene including specialist vets.

Enquiries carried out so far have established another HGV was travelling southbound on the A697. This lorry passed the cattle transporter prior to it overturning and officers are appealing for the driver of this vehicle to get in touch.
Constable Cameron Simpson said: “We believe the driver of the lorry will have relevant information which could assist our inquiry and we are appealing to them to contact us.
"I would also ask other motorists who were on the road around this time to get in touch, especially if they have dash cam equipment.
"It’s possible their equipment has captured images which could aid our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101.
