THE SNP’s youth wing is relaunching local groups across Scotland to "empower members" and assist in the party's General Election campaign.

Young Scots for Independence (YSI) has been working with members to relaunch several of its regional branches and introduce reforms for better representation.

So far, the YSI has created new caucuses in Glasgow, Edinburgh and the North East of Scotland with work already underway to establish groups for members in the Highlands and West of Scotland.

The YSI's national executive committee is encouraging members to keep an eye on their emails for upcoming announcements on how they can get involved in the relaunch of their local regions.

National convener Steven Campbell said: “Our members and our regions power the YSI. The regions have been the birthplace of many progressive and life-changing policies.

“We’re keen to build on the successes our regions that’s why we’ve changed the regional rules to allow local members to decide what works for them rather than having a one-size-fits-all approach, which only works for some and adopted a model that ensures regional representation on NEC, regardless of whether there is a fully active regional caucus in their area.

“I encourage all members of the SNP’s youth wing to become active in our regional caucuses and play their part in the direction of the YSI within their local area.”

The party group has also introduced a package of major reforms to local groups, with the aim to empower young local SNP members and ensure better representation.

The YSI’s regional associations were formed in the run up to the 2016 Scottish Parliament election using the parliament’s regional boundaries.
