A SCOTTISH restaurant considered a popular spot for Asian cuisine is closing its doors after operating for 21 years.

In February, Edinburgh’s Phuket Pavilion closed for the last time.

The restaurant, found on Union Street, told customers in an online statement as well as notice on their website that they are now "permanently closed".

They wrote: "Now permanently closed. It was our pleasure serving food for the past 15+ years! Couldn't have done it without our customers."

It got its name - Phuket - from "a luscious and tropical island of Thailand which lies in the tranquil and warm settings of the Andaman Sea", according to their website.

The Thai restaurant was spotted with a "for let" sign above the door and it has been reported that all of the tables and chairs have been removed.

The eatery boasted four and a half stars on Tripadvisor, praising their flavours and good service.

Per its location, the restaurant was popular with locals and tourists heading to the Playhouse Theatre.
