AN ANCIENT Scottish hotel dating back to 1708 has been put up for sale.

The Saracen's Head Hotel in Beith – which has reportedly welcomed poet Robert Burns – is being sold as four letting rooms, as well as a two-bedroom owner's flat, a fish and chip shop, and a three-bedroom flat.

The North Ayrshire hotel’s sales listing has been put up on Zoopla, with offers in the region of £240,000, and £170,000 for the chip shop and flat.

Murray Thomson, the owner, said: "I am selling two of our family businesses in Beith under same family for 40 years.

"The Saracen's Head Hotel dates back to 1708 and supposedly Rabbie Burns stayed there while buying a horse from Kilbirnie.

"The hotel has four letting rooms and a two-bedroom owner's flat, the fish and chip shop and three-bedroom flat.

"All have had separate tenants and there is a rental from a cash machine."
