A BRITISH Airways flight travelling from Aberdeen to London was forced to divert to Edinburgh due to a “general emergency”.

According to the Flightradar24 account on Twitter/X, flight SHT19M was scheduled to leave Aberdeen at 10.45am and arrive at 12.25pm.

In a post on Twitter/X, it said: “SHT19M from Aberdeen (ABZ) to London (LHR) is squawking 7700, indicating a general emergency. Reason currently unknown.”

A separate post added: “Update. This aircraft is now diverting to Edinburgh, at present holding west of the city.”

Flightradar24 then confirmed that the plane had landed in Edinburgh.

A spokesperson for British Airways said: "Our aircraft diverted to Edinburgh due to a minor technical issue where it landed normally.

"Our teams are working to ensure customers reach their destination as soon as possible."
