A SCOTTISH restaurant considered a go to for Brazilian cuisine is closing its doors after operating for 13 years.

On February 7, Glasgow’s Viva Brail closed for the last time.

The restaurant, found on Bothwell Street, told customers in statement taped to the door that they had made the “difficult decision” to close permanently after watching "more and more businesses close" amid other factors,

It read: "We closed our doors for the last time on Wednesday, February 7.

"It has been a difficult decision to make and due to factors out of our control we have sadly had no other option.

"We have enjoyed bringing the flavours of Brazil to the city of Glasgow for over 13 years! We will take some amazing memories with us of this fantastic city and would like to thank you all for making it so special”.

The statement said their Cardiff and Liverpool restaurants will remain open.

It added: "Thank you once again to everyone who supported us over the years, we wish you farewell and goodbye for now.

"Many thanks, viva Brazil."

Andy Aldrich, owner of the Viva Brazil Restaurant chain, said: “This has been a very tough decision to make and I am of course deeply sorry that it has come to this.

“This is a business I have personally built up and invested in over the last 12 years and no business owner wants to make decisions like this.

“It is unfortunate that I feel I have been left with no other option and forced into this position. A combination of the cost of living crisis, escalating bills and over-heads and very sadly a street which has gradually seen more and more businesses close, I have had to make this very difficult move.

“All of the staff who are employed in Glasgow have been offered alternative positions at my restaurants in other regions and supported with re-location costs, or, supported to find other positions if re-locating is not an option for them.”
