AN AWARD-WINNING pub that was the first in Scotland to be bought by the local community is looking for new management.
The Swan in Banton, near Kilsyth in North Lanarkshire, dates back to the mid-1800s and has been owned by locals since a community buy-out in late 2017.
The pub was facing potential demolition before locals organised under the People United for Banton (PUB) banner and saved the building. It reopened after extensive renovations in 2020.
In 2021, it was recognised in Scotland’s My Place Awards, which are supported by the Scottish Government and celebrate “community-led built environment projects that have transformed their locality”.
The lease for the pub has now been put on the market.
Agents Graham and Sibbald say the premises offer “a great opportunity for the right tenant to build upon the already stellar reputation and frequent return clients”.
They add: "The Swan is an outstanding newly renovated community pub with a roaring F&B [food and beverage] business.
“Located on a prominent plot in the centre of the village, the pub offers the right tenant a great opportunity to run a warm and inviting pub full of character. This pub is a true gem offering a charming turn-key operation, with an excellent food offering and a spacious flat above.”

Offers for the lease are being invited in the region of £45,000 for the ingoing premium and an annual rent of £25,000. Details of turnover and other financial information for the business will be available to prospective buyers after a formal viewing.
