A HOTEL in Edinburgh has been voted as the most romantic in the UK as part of new research. 

The Witchery, which is located on Castlehill in Scotland’s capital, was awarded the accolade by Big 7 Travel.

The travel guide described the hotel as an “enchanting haven that stands as the epitome of love, having been voted the most romantic hotel in the UK”.

It notes that it is located “right on the Royal Mile, moments from the castle gates” and added: “Inside it’s all wood panelling, velvety furnishing and lots of soft candlelight.

“It’s the perfect bolthole for the most romantic minds. The library (suite) even has a secret door (hidden in a bookcase) and the rates include a bottle of champagne.”

Room rates at the hotel start from £475 per room, per night.

It came in 19th place overall on the Big 7 Travel’s top 50 most romantic hotels in the world, but was the highest ranked in the UK.

A range of factors were considered for the list, including reader suggestions and TripAdvisor review scores, along with those that offered “unique romantic experiences, room facilities and luxury”.

Elsewhere on the list The Newt hotel in Somerset was named as the second-most romantic hotel in the UK and was placed 26th on the list overall.
