A HISTORIC Glasgow tea room brand designed by internationally renowned architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh will open a new venue in Scotland's capital city.

For the first time the Willow Tea Rooms will open a venue outside of Glasgow, with a new Edinburgh location being teased on their social media on Thursday.

The original A-listed Willow Tea Rooms building designed by Mackintosh continues to stand on Sauchiehall Street, having originally opened in 1903. The building is now part of the National Trust for Scotland.

A second Willow Tea Rooms exists on Buchanan Street, having opened in 1997. While it was not designed by Mackintosh, it was inspired by his work and is furnished in his style.

Now, the owners of the Buchanan Street store have announced that their new tea room will be opening in Edinburgh later this month. It is unclear where in the capital the new shop will be located.

A spokesperson for Willow Tea Room said: "Edinburgh, something quaint is coming - keep your eyes peeled for The Willow Tearooms opening later this month."
