SCOTRAIL has warned that there will be some disruption across the network as yellow weather warnings come into force across Scotland.

A yellow warning for wind covering the north of Scotland is in place till 7pm today while the rest of the country is covered by a similar warning until 5pm.

The rail operator has now confirmed that speed restrictions will be in place as a result of the weather.

It said: “Speed restrictions will be in place today due to adverse weather. This will result in extended journey times, cancellations and an emergency timetable for each affected line.”

The lines affected include:

  • Inverness-Aberdeen
  • Inverness-Wick
  • Inverness-Kyle of Lochalsh
  • Inverness-Tain
  • Glasgow Queen Street/Edinburgh-Inverness
  • Glasgow Queen Street-Oban/Fort William/Mallaig

The statement added: “We have buses in place to replace some trains with more to be confirmed” and encouraged people to search for their service online and to plan ahead.
