A MAN has been arrested after a Police incident sparked the closure of a major street in Glasgow City Centre. 

Argyle Street was closed to all traffic from around 9.30pm on Sunday, January 14 until 6.45am on Monday, January 15. 

According to a traffic information bulletin issued by Glasgow City Council, this was due to an "ongoing police incident" and road users were urged to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland has since confirmed the incident was in connection with reports a 30-year-old man had been assaulted. 

A statement read: "We received a report that a 30-year-old man had been assaulted on Argyle Street, Glasgow around 9.15pm on Sunday, January 14 2024.

"Officers attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment. A 42-year-old man was also taken to hospital for treatment. 

"A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing."
