A SCOTTISH cafe will not reopen as planned after the New Year.

Smiths Vegan Cafe on Victoria Road in Glasgow's southside first opened in the spring of 2023, taking over a former hair salon.

But after less than a year, the cafe has been put up for sale.

In a statement on social media, the owners wrote: "We are sad to announce that Smiths Vegan Cafe will not be reopening in 2024 as originally planned and the cafe is now for sale.

"Thank you to everyone who has come in and supported the business over the last year, we really appreciate it."

The purchase price for the cafe has been set at £20,000 with owners suggesting they could help eager owners to pay off the cost over time.

A spokesperson for Smiths said: "There is scope to have a payment plan set up if anyone is interested but unable to afford the full cost upfront.

"This business would be better suited to an owner who plans to work in the cafe."

Owners spent £40,000 converting the hair salon into a fully fitted cafe with kitchen space at the beginning of 2023.

They added: "If the business continued to operate with the existing opening hours (Wednesday-Sunday 10am to 5pm), expected figures for the first year would be between £36,400-£41,600, with the opportunity to increase.

"The business is the only fully vegan cafe in the area and has space for 12 to 15 indoor seats and four outdoor seats.

"Trade is currently a 50/50 split between takeaway and sit-in customers."
