A popular LGBT+ bar and nightclub announced its closure just days before Christmas.

Bonjour Bar on Glasgow's Saltmarket first opened in June 2021 as a co-operative with staff.

The venue was a favourite with the LGBT+ community, providing a safe space for underrepresented groups.

The nightclub revealed it was closed in an Instagram statement shared with its 12.1K followers on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the venue wrote: "Thank you to all staff past and present, co-op members, performers, promoters, organisations, the Bonjour community, to all mommies and others who have generously donated and kept our spirit alive whether it be through financial means or emotional support.

"This venture has proven that when a community connects, we have the power to help sustain each other, amplify queer voices and support radical ideas."

They added: "This experience has been trial and error, we have learnt a lot though there was no framework for us to work under and very limited funding available, specifically for co-operative queer spaces.

"Despite all of this, the space we made became integral to many.

"We strongly encourage other promoters and venues to continue to platform entirely QTBIPOC line-ups, paying all performers and staff a fair wage, and having well-informed and considered safety policies.

"We can all continue to do better on behalf of the communities we serve."

Bonjour Bar representatives requested anyone with leads on jobs for its staff to directly message the account.
