Created by Jesse Armstrong, Succession told the story of the Roy family – who controlled a powerful global, media and entertainment conglomerate – fighting for control of their family empire.

Elsewhere, the film adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s novel Poor Things has also picked up a number of nominations.

Yorgos Lanthimos is nominated for his work as director while Emma Stone is also up for an award by the best performance by an actress in a musical or comedy.

Her co-stars Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo also picked up nominations in the best supporting actor category.

The film has also been widely tipped for Oscar success and is due for release across the UK on January 12.
