TWO Scottish stays have been named among the most "glorious" waterside locations in the UK to visit this winter in a new travel list.

The spots, which are located in the Highlands, were selected for their "spectacular views" and range of activities.

The list of 10 locations was compiled by The Guardian newspaper.

The two Scottish waterside stays named among the best in the UK to visit this winter

Lochview House, in the Highland town of Fort William, and Portnellan in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, were named among the UK's best waterside stays this winter.

Speaking of Lochview House, The Guardian said that the site offers "spectacular views" alongside a "comfortable home set on the banks of Loch Lochy on the outskirts of Fort William".

"Breathtaking hiking and skiing" opportunities are also said to be a 15-minute drive away, making this perfect for those wanting to explore the great outdoors this winter.

The paper adds that with the outdoor patio heater, it is possible to enjoy the great Scottish views even on the "wintriest of days".

Speaking of Portnellan, which is said to be a 90-minute drive from Glasgow, the publication said that the property comprises a "collection of lodges scattered" throughout.

It added: "The price of a stay includes the use of rowing boats, kayaks, loch and river fishing and a welcome pack, with one, two and three-bedroom options available, all with well-equipped kitchens, Egyptian linens and private balconies to take in the views.

"In spite of the isolated feel, there is a clutch of good pubs in the area and a well-stocked village store at Crianlarich, two miles away."
