A NEW yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of Scotland with heavy rain expected.

The warning will come into place from 6am on Thursday, December 7 until 11.59pm the same day.

It covers a large part of Scotland’s east coast, including both Aberdeen and Dundee, as well as Perth and people have been told power cuts are possible. 

A separate warning is also in place for the same time period covering a large part of the south-west of the country.

The Met Office has warned Scots to expect the following:

  • There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life

The latest warning comes after a number of yellow snow and ice warnings were issued across Scotland in the past week. 

Temperatures across the country dipped to around or below freezing in many of the affected areas.
