AN award-winning and “well-performing” Scottish pub has hit the market.

The Cavens Arms, which is situated next to the River Nith as it flows through Dumfries, has been put up for sale as the current owners look to retire.

Gary Jeffries, who has owned the bar and restaurant with his family for the last two decades, said he was looking to spend more time with his children.

Jeffries said: “We first opened in 2003 with a vision of selling great quality, homemade food and real ales in a friendly and welcoming town atmosphere, and we have done so for the last 20 years.

“We would like to thank our long-serving dedicated staff for their tremendous hard work and our loyal customers who have both made Cavens the success it is today.

“Having thoroughly enjoyed the last 20 years we now feel it is time to step away from hospitality and spend more time with our children, especially our youngest son who requires full-time care.”

The National:

The Cavens Arms has won 15 CAMRA Real Ale awards and is on the market for offers over £950,000.

Christie and Co, the specialist business property adviser, said the pub sale included “high-quality owners accommodation” in the form of a five-bedroom flat.

According to the listing, the pub also has a large covered beer garden with seating for around 30 people.

Tony Spence, an associate director with the firm who is handling the sale, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-performing bar and restaurant in the centre of Dumfries.

“The business would be well suited to a couple given the high-quality owners accommodation which is included, however, would suit slot perfectly into an existing portfolio due to its high level of turnover.”
