A SCOTTISH region has made a global list of the best travel destinations for 2024.

Global travel authority Lonely Planet unveiled its annual hotlist of destinations for the coming year, with Scotland’s Far North making the guide’s list of best regions in the world to travel to.

The three northern counties of Ross & Cromarty, Sutherland and Caithness are often overlooked by tour buses but offer some of the most dramatic coastlines and mountain scenery in Scotland.

Making 10th in the list, Lonely Planet highlighted its “unsung boggy interior” and coastline of “heartbreaking beauty”.
