A SCOTTISH bar has made a prestigious list of the best bars in the world.

The World’s 50 Best Bars 2023 awards were unveiled in Singapore on Tuesday, with Edinburgh’s very own Panda & Sons re-entering the list at number 39.

Hidden within what looks like a vintage barbershop, this incredible cocktail bar has an almost theatrical, Prohibition-style vibe, with quirky decor.

The cocktail list has inventive drinks like ‘The Fennel Countdown’, with Havana 7 Rum, Laird’s Applejack, apple soda, lime juice and a toasted fennel seed and mint cordial.

The American Bar at the iconic Gleneagles Hotel (below) in Auchterarder was also awarded the best cocktail menu for its Book of Berries menu.

Inspired by the 20th-century ‘observer books’, the menu features 18 cocktails, each dedicated to a single botanical berry sourced from the local hills of Perthshire.

Other UK bars to have featured are Connaught Bar (No.5), Tayēr + Elementary (number eight), Satan's Whiskers (number 28), A Bar with Shapes for a Name (number 35) and Scarfes Bar (number 41).

Sips, in Barcelona, was crowned the world’s best bar. It is the second time in consecutive years that a bar from Barcelona has taken the top spot.

William Drew, director of content at 50 Best, said: “As the brainchild of cocktail-world icons Marc Álvarez and Simone Caporale, Sips was destined for greatness even before it rocketed into the list at No.37 just a few short months after opening in 2021.

"The bar seamlessly translates contemporary innovation and technical precision into a playful cocktail programme, accompanied by the warmest hospitality, making it a worthy winner of The World’s Best Bar 2023 title.”

Drew continued: “At 50 Best, we take great pride in highlighting the unparalleled diversity of the global bar industry and we extend our sincere congratulations to each bar that has earned a place on this illustrious ranking.

"We have once again seen the number of cocktail cities represented here increase, and hope this list continues to ignite the spark of wanderlust for cocktail lovers around the world.”
