A US-BOUND flight has made a U-turn after issuing an emergency code above Glasgow.

The Delta Airlines DL187 was travelling from London to Los Angeles on Monday afternoon when the crew declared a squawk 7700.

This code is used to communicate on-flight emergencies and, depending on the nature and severity of the situation, crews may conduct checks before formally declaring an emergency.

According to FlightRadar24, the code was issued near Dunblane and resulted in the crew turning around above Glasgow and heading back to London.

Reports on social media suggest that the code was issued due to a medical emergency, but Delta has been approached for comment.
