THE Yes Stones group has donated more than £600 to foodbanks across Edinburgh, Galashiels and Dunbar.

The activists, who have a Facebook page with more than 9000 members sharing photographs as well as connecting Yes supporters across the globe, raised the money at their stall at last weekend’s Yes for EU and Believe in Scotland Edinburgh Yes rally.

Members paint “stones, pebbles, slate” to “plant” across Scotland – "and, indeed, the world”.

Stones and slates are not priced and all money raised is from donations. From this event, £215 each went to three foodbanks: The Edinburgh Food Project, Dunbar Community Foodshare and Galashiels and Area Food Bank.

The group have donated to numerous food banks and charities since 2020 – the amount raised currently stands at £5276.

Member Rachael Mackenzie shared the update with members, writing: “Just to let you know that the money raised from donations to the Yes Stones cairn at the march on September 2 has been divided between 3 foodbanks with £215.00 each sent to The Edinburgh Food Project, Dunbar Community Foodshare and Galashiels and Area Foodbank”.

Foodbanks in South Ayrshire, Alloa, Penicuik, Caithness, Moray, Inverness, Perth, Stirling, Dundee, Golspie and Rutherglen have all benefitted from the group's work.

Yes Stones are set to be on offer at the upcoming AUOB event at Falkirk on September 23.

The public are welcome to take stones from the displays at marches and are encouraged “if you want to keep it, that's fine, but paint three more and plant them somewhere else”.
