NEW research has revealed the top five public gardens across Scotland – just in time for people to visit them before summer officially ends.

Researchers at Idealo analysed and ranked Instagram hashtag data to discover the most popular gardens across Scotland.

The most popular across Scotland are as follows:

  • 1 – Princes Street Gardens – Edinburgh
  • 2 – Royal Botanic Garden – Edinburgh
  • 3 – Inverewe Garden – Wester Ross
  • 4 – Benmore Botanic Garden – Benmore, by Dunoon
  • 5 – Threave Garden – Threave Estate

In terms of numbers, Princes Street Gardens was way out in front. Data showed it was used in a hashtag more than 50,000 times on average by Instagram users.

Located in the heart of Edinburgh, Princes Street Gardens was first created by draining the city’s largest loch, the Nor Loch.

All the other locations on the list had less than 10,000 per month.
