THE line-up for Scotland’s leading festival of economics has been announced – including top academics and international politicians.

Scotonomics, which held its inaugural festival in March this year, has announced the event will return for another two-day run in Dundee in 2024.

The event bills itself as providing a space for “people who would never normally attend an event about economics” to tune into discussions about the financial forces which shape everyday life.

Speakers at next year’s event are due to include former adviser to Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the Labour Party Ann Pettifor, Professor Daniela Gabor of UWE Bristol and Clara Mattei, who teaches at The New School for Social Research in New York City.

Also scheduled to appear are Scotland’s Energy and Environment Minister Gillian Martin and former Australian Green senator Scott Ludlam.

BBC economics correspondent Andy Verity, Nick Dearden from the campaign group Global Justice Now and Derek Walker, the Welsh Government’s Future Generations Commissioner.

Amanda Burgauer, the executive director of the think tank Common Weal, who is speaking on Saturday, said: "I am looking forward to speaking at the Scotonomics Festival of Economics in Dundee in 2024.

“The festival attracts people who would never normally attend an event about economics. It is a great opportunity to hear what people across Scotland think about the Scottish economy.”

The event also promises art, comedy, film and music alongside discussions and talks from academics.

Organisers said they expect around 300 people to attend the two day event.

Dundee city council leader John Alexander said: “Scotland's largest economics festival has now made its home in Dundee, and we are delighted to welcome participants back to our city in March 2024.”

Organisers William Thomson and Kairin Van Sweeden said there will be free to attend events in community spaces throughout the city between March 22 and 24 next year, and that profits made from the paid-for events will be donated to community projects in Dundee.

Tickets start at £25 and you can find out more as well as a full list of confirmed speakers here: http://www.scotonomics.scot/live-event
