THE Good Food Guide has named three Scottish eateries on a list of the 23 best coastal cafes and restaurants in the UK.

The list includes food spots from all across the UK, including in Devon, Cornwall and Kent.

It comes after the Good Food Guide recently named The Kinneuchar Inn as the best local restaurant in Scotland.

The three entries on this list were Café Fish in Mull, The Dory Bistro in Pittenweem, and The Seafood Shack in Ullapool.

Café Fish

Restaurants were rated on a variety of different factors, including uniqueness, deliciousness, warmth and the strength of recommendation.

The review said of Mull's Cafe Fish: “everything is local and sustainable at this fiercely independent set-up”.

It’s located atop the old CalMac ferry building which overlooks the harbour in Tobermory.

Unsurprisingly, most of the highlights included a variety of seafood dishes from oysters to smoked haddock, although they were also praised for their ribeye steaks, sandwiches and pizzas.

The Dory Bistro

Similarly, The Dory Bistro was also classed as “good” in all the categories on which it was judged.

Again, the highlights were predominantly seafood with the crab in particular cited as one of the best dishes on the menu.

Much of the food is sourced locally and caught daily while the review pointed to the fact that it was “affordable” and made the most “of what lies right on its doorstep”.

The Seafood Shack

Located in Ullapool, The Seafood Shack is open from the beginning of April to the end of October.

“This totally unpretentious catering trailer is a godsend for holidaymakers and locals alike”, the review says.

However, it does say to be “prepared for queues” and points to hand-dived scallops, tempura-battered haddock and hot-smoked trout as some of the best dishes on offer.
