TWO anti-monarchy protesters have been charged by police for allegedly attempting to climb over a crowd safety barrier on the Royal Mile at the King’s "mini coronation" yesterday.
The two women from climate group This is Rigged have been charged with a breach of the peace, and have been released ahead of an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on July 11.
The group previously said that one of the people arrested was 21-year-old Hannah from Glasgow, who said at the time: "This Is Rigged are demanding that the Scottish government vocally oppose all new oil and gas licenses.
"The system is rigged against the people. Why are we giving the Honours of Scotland to an old man, before helping our children, our young people’s future."
Three other men and one woman were arrested for alleged threatening behaviour and failing to desist when asked to do so, though their arrests were later changed to recorded police warnings.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Regarding two women who were arrested in connection with a breach of the peace after allegedly attempting to climb over a crowd safety barrier on the Royal Mile yesterday, they have now been charged.
“They have been released on an undertaking to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 11 July, 2023.”
