HALF of UK voters still don’t know what Keir Starmer stands for, a new survey shows.

It comes amid another U-turn as Labour scrapped a pledge to bring in rent controls just nine months after endorsing the policy.

The Ipsos Mori survey – which interviewed 1033 adults Between June 14 and June 20 – found that 50% don’t know what Keir Starmer stands for, an increase of 6% since January. Meanwhile, 28% disagree and 16% neither agree nor disagree.

This is higher than Tory Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, with 45% agreeing that they don’t know what Rishi Sunak stands for, whilst 34% disagree.

58% said they think both Labour and the Conservatives have given "too little" information about what they would do in office after the next General Election, which is set for late next year.

Labour are leading by 22 points according to the survey, with 47% saying they are most inclined to support the party compared with 25% for the Tories.

When asked to name people in Starmer’s shadow cabinet, only Angela Rayner got into double figures in public recognition. In fact, only seven out of 30 of his top team were mentioned by at least 3% of respondents.

Meanwhile, former leader Jeremy Corbyn was named by more people than 20 actual shadow cabinet members.

For both parties, 58%, including a majority among both their own supporters, say they have not been given enough information about what the two leaders would do if they won the election.
