HUMZA Yousaf has responded after Lewis Capaldi's announcement cancelling all future shows to take a “break from touring for the foreseeable future”.

Retweeting Capaldi's announcement, Yousaf told the singer "it's okay not be okay" and thanked him for his openness about his mental health challenges.

Capaldi's announcement comes after the singer powered through an emotional set on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage as he steadily lost his voice, revealing at the end of his performance that he plans to take some more time off.

In response to Capaldi's statement, the First Minister of Scotland said: "It's okay, not to be okay. Thank you Lewis Capaldi for being you, and for speaking so openly about the challenges you are facing. Your bravery will give heart and comfort to so many people in a similar position. Wish you the very best for your health and wellbeing."

Before the final song of his set at Glastonbury, the singer born in Glasgow told the crowd: “I recently took three weeks off just because I’ve been non-stop the past year and I wanted to take a wee break from my head for my mental health.

“I wanted to come back and do Glastonbury because it’s obviously so incredible so I just want to thank you all for coming out. I was scared but you’ve really made me feel at ease so thank you very much for that.”
