A BBC presenter has mistaken the SNP for a far-right political party.
On Sunday night’s BBC Newsday, which is live from Singapore, presenter Monica Miller referred to the SNP as the British National Party (BNP).
In the segment reporting Sturgeon’s arrest, Miller said: “The former first minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon, in connection with an investigation into the finances of the British National Party…”

A clip of the mistake was posted online by folk singer and independence supporter Iona Fyfe.
Fyfe said: “Just wondering @mmillerbbc, are you aware that Nicola Sturgeon has zero connection with the ‘British National Party’ as you reported?”

The British National Party is a far-right political party led by Adam Walker who took over from Nick Griffin in 2015.
Others online labelled it a “convenient smear” and said there must be “nothing short of a live statement on TV apologising and clarifying the mistake - anything less is an admission of deliberately trying to mislead the public.”
Miller replied to the original post on Monday. She said: "Earlier today, as I was wrapping up a story, I accidently said the wrong name on air. I meant to say the Scottish National Party. Apologies for any confusion. Thanks."
The BBC has been approached for comment.
