A NEW survey has revealed the best seaside town in Scotland.

Consumer champion Which? surveyed over 3000 visitors, asking them to rate their experiences of visiting seaside towns across the UK in the last year.

Criteria included the quality of the beaches, food and drink offerings, tourist attractions and value for money.

Where is Scotland’s best seaside town?

St Andrews in Fife was voted as the best seaside town in Scotland, coming joint fourth in the UK overall.

It drew praise for its “expansive” beach and “characterful” buildings, as well as its renowned golf course.

It received a five-star score for its tourist attractions.

What other beaches in Scotland made the list?

Also in the top 10 was Tobermory on the Isle of Mull which was ranked highly for its scenery.

Pittenweem in Fife, which ranked highly for its seafront, scenery, peace and quiet and value for money, was also on the list.  

Stonehaven and Oban were further down the list with both receiving three stars in most of the categories they were ranked on.

Largs in North Ayrshire also made an appearance, as did Dunbar East which received a four-star rating for its food and drink.

Where is the best seaside town in the UK?

Topping the charts for the third consecutive year, Northumberland’s Bamburgh secured a score of 88% overall.

Visitors awarded it a full five stars for scenery, as well as for the quality of the beach and seafront.
