MANY will have spotted a number of SNP MPs wearing badges at today’s PMQs, but what are they and what do they represent?

What are the badges for?

The badges mark International Workers' Memorial Day, which takes place annually on April 28.

It is an international day of remembrance and action for workers killed, disabled, injured or made unwell by their work.

The National has also been told that the ribbons were provided by the Scottish Trades Union Congress.

Many MPs could be seen wearing the purple ribbon. On the Labour frontbench, the party’s deputy leader Angela Rayner was wearing a badge - although Keir Starmer did not have one on.

Although April 28 is the focal point for the day of remembrance, campaigning and other related activities continue throughout the world across the year.

In 2023, the theme is Global: Organising for health and safety – a crucial part of union action, according to Unite the Union.
