A FULL half of Scotland has no plans to watch or celebrate the coronation of King Charles, a new poll has suggested.

The YouGov survey, published on Thursday, found that 50% of Scots said they were “not at all likely” to “watch King Charles’ coronation and/or take part in celebrations surrounding it”.

A further 20% of people north of the Border said it was “not very likely” that they would celebrate the coronation in any way.

In contrast, just 15% of Scots said they were “very likely” to mark the occasion, while 12% said they were “fairly likely” to.

The YouGov survey of 3070 British adults suggested that Scotland is far and away the least enthused part of the UK when it comes to the coronation.

While just 27% of Scots said they were “very” or “fairly” likely to watch or celebrate the coronation, this was 47% in London, 54% in the rest of the south of England, 49% in the midlands, 43% in the north, and 47% in Wales.

Furthermore, while 70% of Scots said they were “not very” or “not at all” likely to watch or celebrate the coronation, this was 45% in London, 42% in the rest of the south of England, 47% in the midlands, 52% in the north, and 50% in Wales.

The National:

As a UK average, 48% of people said they were likely not to mark the occasion, while 46% said they were likely to “watch King Charles’ coronation and/or take part in celebrations surrounding it”.

Conservative voters were the most likely to say they would be watching or taking part in the coronation celebrations, with 64% saying they were likely to do so.

Older people are also more likely to be taking part than younger people, according to the poll. Some 62% of people aged over 65 said they were very or fairly likely to celebrate, while just 31% of 18-24s said the same.

A separate question in the poll yielded similar results. YouGov asked people: “How much do you care about the forthcoming coronation of King Charles?”

The National:

In Scotland, a massive 80% said “not very much” or “not at all”.

As a UK average, 64% of people said that they did not care much or at all about the coronation. A total of 24% said they cared a fair amount, while just 9% said they cared a “great deal”.
