NEW film festival Screen 51 is set to be launched during the school Easter holiday.

The festival will run from Thursday, April 13, to Sunday, April 16 at the Govan and Linthouse Parish Church, screening 2022’s biggest blockbusters – including Top Gun: Maverick, Elvis and Matilda the Musical.

It is being hosted by children’s charity NSPCC through its Together for Childhood project, which delivers online workshops, events and mentoring for organisations, in partnership with Govan and Linthouse Parish Church and We Together CIC.

Lauren Engall, children services practitioner for Govan Together for Childhood, said: “The Screen 51 team have delivered a brilliant programme.

“This is a great opportunity for children and families across Govan and beyond to come together as a community, be connected and have the opportunity to enjoy a fun-packed programme.”

Over the past year, the Together for Childhood project team has been working with teachers at primary schools in Govan to deliver emotional resilience and mindfulness sessions to help the children understand their thoughts and feelings.

The sessions also support the pupils to develop resilience skills to help them cope better with challenging situations and improve their wellbeing and emotional development.

Jamie Goodwin, arts and worship development worker for Govan and Linthouse Parish Church, said: “We’re delighted to work alongside We Together CIC and Govan Together for Childhood on what is sure to be an excellent celebration of film.

“We are excited to promote our venue in new and worthwhile ways, which provide high-quality arts events for the local community and beyond.

“Screen 51 film festival is set to be a highlight of our calendar year!’’

Matthew O’Donnell, managing director for We Together CIC, said: “We're thrilled that 2023 marks Screen 51 film festival’s premiere to the big screens of Govan, giving audiences the opportunity to experience a rich programme of new films and classic cinema that celebrates creativity and community.”

Tickets for the family films will be free to ensure it is accessible for everyone, and free snacks will be available for the children attending.
