ARCHAEOLOGY Scotland has announced a summer school trip for 2023.

The weekend excursion to Angus will involve take budding archaeologists to some of Scotland’s many prehistoric burial sites, where important discoveries of human activity have been made, as well as visits to medieval buildings.

The expert-led studies will be centred on the Brechin, Laurencekirk, Forfar and Fettercairn area.

They will study medieval arts, castles and churches through lectures, site visits and seminar-like conversations.

This follows shortly after the announcement of multi-disciplinary firm Rocket Group opening its second Scottish office in Dundee, where its archaeology and ecology teams will be based.

The office is to be headed by recently appointed regional director Dr Greg Bremner.

In the coming months, the group is planning to recruit archaeology, heritage and ecology consultants for its new office.

The base for this year’s trip will be the costal town of Montrose just north of Dundee in Angus.

Archaeology Scotland’s summer school programmes have been running since 1952, visiting different locations each time, including to notable sites in England.

The trips are open to people of all ages interested in Scotland’s rich history throughout the ages.

The summer school is slated for May 19 to May 22, and applications are open until March 31.
