SNOW and ice are expected to continue to cause disruption across Scotland for the remainder of the week.

Commuters and schoolchildren in northern Scotland in particular are facing major disruption as the region was hit by a blanket of snow.

The National put out a call for some of YOUR pictures and we’ve picked some of the best.

A series of yellow “be aware” warnings have been issued until 6pm this Friday with a warning coming into place for much of central Scotland later this week.

The Met Office has said many locations across Scotland could see between 5-10cm of snow.

A number of schools have been forced to close in the Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council and Highland Council areas.

The heaviest snowfall is expected to arrive on Friday.

Tuesday could be the coldest night of the year so far with the mercury plunging to minus 15C in some isolated glens. 

The small hamlet of Altnaharra in the Highlands was covered in 12cm of snow - more than anywhere else in the UK.
