A LABOUR candidate has been mocked for a ridiculous email address he included on his campaign materials.

Graeme Lawrence is gunning to represent the people of the Dyce, Bucksburn and Dunstone ward on the outskirts of Aberdeen.

But his city council campaign has stumbled on a self-inflicted hurdle after he was mocked for using his strangely-named email address on his canvassing material.

A leaflet urging Aberdeen voters to “send a local champion to the town house” included his handle: handsomegranda@hotmail.co.uk

The unusual choice had Twitter users in hysterics, with one commenting: “That’s SO unprofessional and hilarious”.

Andi Watson, who first spotted the email address, said: “I cannot take anyone let alone an [Aberdeen Labour] candidate seriously with this email address! Surely someone must have said no you can’t use that!”

Lawrence served as a councillor from 2012 to 2017 and was previously on the board of Sport Aberdeen, the city’s official sporting and leisure body.

The former councillor is campaigning to cap bus fares in Aberdeen at £2 for a single – a scheme critics have said could cost as much as £30 million, the Evening Express reported.

The by-election takes place on Thursday and was called last year following the death of Tory councillor Avril MacKenzie at the age of 67.

The National has approached Scottish Labour and Lawrence for comment.
