DYNAMIC Earth is launching a brand-new film in its planetarium, taking its place in Scotland’s world environmental centre.

We Are Guardians is now being shown at Edinburgh’s only large-scale planetarium facility.

The 25-minute movie explores how satellites are increasingly being used to monitor human impact on the environment.

Visitors to the Dynamic Earth planetarium are immersed in surround-sound, with fully digital 360-degrees projections and 6K resolution.

We Are Guardians adds to a suite of films showing at Dynamic Earth this February; others include presenter-led shows like Under Pressure, which looks at the deep ocean, and What’s Up, a seasonal look at the night sky.

Hermione Cockburn, scientific director at Dynamic Earth, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching We Are Guardians this February, adding to an amazing line up of shows available in our new planetarium.

"The film does a fantastic job of explaining how the environment works, and how observing the Earth from space helps us to understand what is happening in the world around us."

A planetarium show is part of the admission cost to the Dynamic Earth experience, and tickets for any individual show can also be purchased separately.

Regular Dynamic Earth features include the real iceberg, a bone-shaking earthquake and the Deep Time Machine which takes visitors billions of years back in time.

For February half-term, from February 11 to 19, the science centre is also hosting Anchors Away, a family-friendly hands-on activities exploring the depths of Scotland’s rich ocean heritage.

Anchors Away runs from 10am to 4pm each day and is free with admission to Dynamic Earth.

Also running throughout the month (1-26 February) is an LGBTQ+ mini exhibition to celebrate LGBT History Month.

The exhibition enables visitors to read about LGBTQ+ people who have influenced the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

Cockburn said: “We’re also proud to offer our free LGBTQ+ exhibition as part of our February programme. And Anchors Away for half-term adds a really fun hands-on element to everything Dynamic Earth has on offer.”
