ACTIVISTS will pay Alister Jack’s constituency office a visit as part of the upcoming third year Brexit anniversary action – to deliver a message.

Dumfries and Galloway Pensioners for Independence (DG4indy) will be hosting a candlelit walk to the Scottish secretary’s constituency office in Dumfries town centre on January 31. This will coincide with the Lights On rally planned in Edinburgh.

Time for Scotland – the group that organised rallies on Supreme Court Verdict Day – is hosting the Edinburgh event outside the Scottish Parliament.

The Yes group plans to meet at Planestanes beside the Mid Steeple in Dumfries. This will be from 5.30pm and as before, the aim will be to “extract the maximum possible media coverage form all local media outlets”.

At the beginning of the event, a small group will be sent to Alister Jack MP's office, with placards and banners displaying their message: "Hit the road Jack".

DG4indy previously held one of the 15 rallies held across Scotland. They hope to send a similar, strong message with their Lights On contribution.

The group has requested attendees bring battery powered/torches to create the lit-up effect, whilst following health and safety guideline.

The group said: “We will have music and words, we will greet, encourage, and network. We will also want to get a good team photo. All participants and constituents are invited to bring their own placards, banners or messages to the Planestanes."

The action was planned before the MP for Dumfries and Galloway said there is “no desire in Scotland to have membership of the EU” despite significant evidence to the contrary, it was revealed that he benefitted from a £2 million Covid loan backed by the UK Government during the pandemic or the announcement that he would use a Section 35 Order to stop the Gender Recognition Reform Bill (Scotland) from becoming law.

The Dumfries and Galloway Greens tweeted their reaction to the Section 35 Order on Monday evening as constituents.

They said: "Our constituency’s MP Alister Jack backed law-breaking Boris, supported Liz’s shambolic mini-budget, and now supports Rishi’s undemocratic and authoritarian move to block the legislative process in Scotland. We deserve better."

The action will also co-ordinate with Believe in Scotland national plans, "Brexit Disaster - 3 years on", which are yet to be confirmed.
