Two Scottish towns to see new Aldi stores open in 2023

The retailer said it will be injecting more investment into Scotland’s economy, totaling £35 million, which includes a £10 million spend to open two new stores.

These stores will be located in Cumbernauld and Coatbridge.

The firm said an additional £5 million in funding will be invested to upgrade its existing stores under its "Project Fresh" initiative. The new layout, it said, offers increased space for its Scottish range, including fresh meat and fish, bread and cakes, beers, spirits, and an improved "Food to Go" section.

The retailer said another £20 million will be spent for the rollout of the Deposit Return Scheme.

Richard Holloway, Aldi Scotland regional managing director, said: “2022 was an incredible year for Aldi Scotland, as we opened our 104th Scottish store and saw even more customers shop with us.

“As we look to the New Year, our growth plan continues to be realised, with more stores and further investment in Scotland to reach more customers than ever before.

“We understand the difficulties our customers are facing, and are delighted we can expand our offering in Scotland.”

The supermarket said it will continue to support Scottish food and drink producers, with 25% of its range now locally sourced in Scotland.
