Shortlists for three writing industry awards have been announced at Scotland’s National Book Awards - including Publisher, Emerging Publisher, and Book Cover Designer of the Year.

As one of Scotland’s leading supporters of culture, The Saltire Society, organises Scotland’s National Book Awards in partnership with Publishing Scotland.

The society encourages Gaelic publishers, Scots publishers, and digital-only publishers to enter.

Sarah Mason, Director of the Saltire Society, said: “The awards demonstrate the wealth of industry talent in Scotland and the Saltire Society’s commitment to uncover the emerging talents who will ensure the future of Scottish publishing.”

Nominees for Book Cover Design of the Year include Robert Dalrymple for Alison Watt: A Portrait Without Likeness and Mark Mechan for The Sweetness of Demons.

For Publisher of the Year, they include Edinburgh University Press and Canongate.

Nominated for Emerging Publisher of the Year are Robert Lovell who is the general manager at Scottish Mountaineering Press and editor of the same company, Deziree Wilson.

Shortlisted authors, publishers, and judges will attend the awards evening on 8 December in Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre on 8 December.

The event celebrates the enormous talent in Scottish design and the importance of the relationship between the designer, publisher, and author.
